My Mission

My Mission: I am mailing out baseball cards and a letter to one player on each major league team asking for autographs. This experiment is to see which teams and players will respond to my request for autographs. Follow my posts to see how the Autograph Baseball Card Experiment plays out.
Phase 2: I will be sending out a letter and a baseball card to each Player Relations or Player Personnel Director of each team asking for autographs. Each Player Personnel Director will receive an envelope addressed to them and a baseball card of one of the player on the team. Hopefully, the Player Relations or Player Personnel Director will get the player to sign the baseball card and send it back to me.

Two Letters Returned from Minnesota...

Two weeks ago I received a letter from Joe Mauer of the Minnesota Twins. In the letter, Mr. Mauer was very kind and answered all of my questions that I asked him in my letter sent to him back in September. He did not autograph my card because he likes to meet his fans in person when signing autographs. Thank you Mr. Mauer for taking the time to answer all of my questions.

Earlier this week I received an autographed card from phase two of my experiment. With the help from Mr. Morse, the Player Relations Director of the Minnesota Twins, Josh Willingham autographed my card. Thank you Mr. Morse and Mr. Willingham.

So far I have received 6 autographs: Josh Willingham of the Minnesota Twins, Jim Johnson of the Baltimore Orioles, Joe Nathan of the Texas Rangers, Jedd Gyorko of the San Diego Padres, Max Scherzer of the Detroit Tigers, and Hisashi Iwakuma of the Seattle Mariners. Hopefully more are on their way...

Second Phase 2 Letter Returned...

Last week I received a letter back from the Tampa Bay Rays from phase 2 of my experiment. Enclosed in the Rays envelope was a player card of Evan Longoria, a 2014 Rays schedule, and a letter from the Rays. In the letter, the Rays gave me some facts about their organization. I would like to thank Suzanne Luecke, the community relations director of the Rays, for answering my letter.

Phase 2 Surprise...

Last week I received a box from the NY Mets! I sent a letter to the Player Relations Director of the Mets asking for Matt Harvey to autograph my baseball card and instead of receiving an autograph I received a box of Mets souvenirs!   The box contained a Mets winter hat, Mets playing cards, Mets sunglasses, Mets headphones, Mets garden gnome, David Wright bobblehead, John Franco bobblehead, All-Star Game media guide, a couple of Mets plastic cups,  and an MLB Fan Cave t-shirt. I would like to thank the Player Relations Director of the NY Mets, Jay Horwitz, for answering my letter and sending me Mets souvenirs.

Two Autographs Returned...

A couple weeks ago, I received 2 autographed cards from Jim Johnson of the Baltimore Orioles and Max Scherzer of the Detroit Tigers! These were my third and forth autographed cards out of five letters returned. Thank you, Mr. Johnson and Mr. Scherzer! Back in July, I received a letter from the Tigers that said Scherzer was a part of the Detroit Tigers Foundation and he would autograph my card if I sent the card back with a $10 donation to the Detroit Tigers Foundation. I made a donation to the Detroit Tigers Foundation and sure enough Max Scherzer sent back an autographed card.

First Phase 2 Autograph...

Yesterday I received an autographed player card from Hisashi Iwakuma of the Seattle Mariners! This was my first autograph I received from phase 2 of my experiment.  I would like to thank the Player Relations Director of the Mariners, Ms. Rebecca Hale for answering my letter! In the letter, Ms. Hale stated that she was not allowed to ask the players for autographs but she sent me an autographed player card that Mr. Iwakuma signed at the beginning of the season. Hopefully as the off-season approaches more autographs will come in.

First Phase 2 Letter Returned...

Last week I received a letter back from the Philadelphia Phillies from phase 2 of my experiment. Enclosed was a hand written letter from Scott Palmer, the player relations director of the Phillies. In the letter, Mr. Palmer explained that he was not allowed to ask the players for autographs. The Phillies are the only team that did not send any autographs back but were quick to respond. So far, the Phillies are the only team that answered my letters in both phases.

Two Letters Returned...

Today I received 2 letters in the mail from Jonathan Papelbon of the Philadelphia Phillies and Max Scherzer of the Detroit Tigers. Both sent back my cards unsigned. The Phillies sent me a player card of Papelbon with a pre-printed autograph on it but said that their schedule was too busy for autographs. The letter I received from the Tigers said that Scherzer is a part of the Detroit Tigers Foundation and he will autograph my card if I send the card back with a $10 donation to the Detroit Tigers Foundation.
